I’m experiencing a lot of couch time at the moment and this has led to an exponential increase in my television watching (unfortunately this also translates into a decrease in reading).
A lot of what I have been choosing to view are films I have meant to watch but never got around to.
This week I decided to watch the Beautiful Creatures film.
And now I know why they get the writers of novels to write the screenplays for the film adaptations.
This film did not have the writers of the novel write the screenplay.
And you could tell.
I read this book a couple of years ago and so my memory of the plot was a little hazy. I think this is a good ing when watching a film based on a novel because you don’t want to be comparing the two the whole time. It should be similar but a bit different, obviously you can’t fit a whole novel plot in a two hour film.
Unfortunately this film had no plot at all.
Even having read the book I could not understand what was going on.
The actors they have chosen to play the characters are also all wrong. The main characters are supposed to be like fifteen, but the lead make looks (and sounds) about thirty.
Too much is left out and left unexplained.
No wonder they haven’t made he others.
