yA with penguins

Earlier this week I went to the Penguin Teen Australia Live Event in Sydney with a friend.
We had grand plans of a dinner at Grill’d before it started but traffic and a 6pm start time conspired against us. So we had Hungry Jack’s which is fine by me because I love onion rings.

Anyway, I was going because I’d seen the events from other cities on twitter and love YA and wanted to see what it was like. It was not exactly as I had expected.
It was more a book love fest than an informative night. The lady from penguin talked about what they do and the books she liked. It was kind of like twitter in person. I saw a few books I might end up reading. And some penguin authors talked about their upcoming books. One really good thing was that they were willing to talk about books they hadn’t published, it really was about YA as a genre.
I also came away from the night with a few free books so it was well worth the expedition to the city on a Monday night.

What it has got me thinking (or at least what my event companion suggested has got me thinking) is perhaps I need a professional blog totally devoted to books of the teen variety.
I know I already have a blog here but I don’t want it to be overrun with books, that’s not why I started to write here (though I haven’t been doing a lot of writing lately).
So we are thinking of co-authoring a blog. She is a technological wiz and I can do the punny title. Now all I have to do is think of one.

Coming up on my next blog: Japan or The New Yorker – depends how busy I get next week.
